"It was the days of rave culture. I took some photos of my friends larking about for the camera -on a disposable film camera after we had been to a rave. We were getting some food somewhere in the early hours in central London. I liked the quality in the snap because of the foreshortening and the skin tones (it was lit by flash) It reminded me of "The Burial of Christ" by Manet and also it was an opportunity so try painting like Lucien Freud. It's a nineties tronie really. A little bit of reality from that time. It features Mel (left) and Lee Wilson Wolfe." - Christian Furr
