Furr’s earliest landscape painting – albeit an urban one – is ‘Liverpool Schoolyard’ of 1986. Furr said he was inspired, at the time, by both the rich shadows of Hopper and the wimsy of Lowry.

There are also the smaller informal watercolour studies that begin with Furr’s visits abroad with famil. Furr painted from life on family holidays or on time out from visits for portrait commissions.

In 2011 His first major landscape commission occurred with ‘Blenheim Palace 2011’ This work was originally commissioned by GE to promote their triathlon in the grounds. It went on to be bought by Lord Jamie Blandford.

Furr moved to Richmond upon Thames with his family in 2000 and between 2012 and 2015 created a series of four paintings of the view of the Thames from Richmond Hill. These paintings depict the view in different lights and seasons. 2015 becomes a main year for landscapes with the completion of ‘Richmond Bridge Autumn 2015’ and the view of ‘Doe in Richmond Park in Snow 2015’.

In 2015 Furr visited the Yellow Mountains in China and created a series of watercolours there.

His next major landscape commission occurs with the Serpentine painting 2022 for the Dorchester. This painting now hangs in the Dorchester lobby
