"The model was Ged Adamson who posed for 'Dead Student' for me wearing a John Lennon sixties type cap. So it is an aside painting from 'Dead Student'. The subject is reading the Liverpool Echo which is where the title comes from and there is also a play on the Greek 'Echo and Narcissus'. The setting is a Gainsborough type landscape and I think the dog is directly lifted from one of these paintings. It was loosely painted and is sort of a slightly bigger tronie style work which I was doing at the time." - Christian Furr
