In 1988, Furr who was studying Fine Art at De Montfort University (then Leicester Polytechnic) created a super8 live action animation of an invented Plasticine character waking up in the morning 'Waking up' incorporated stop frame techniques using a 3d set as its base. The set incorporated hand coloured photocopies and drawings hand coloured with inks. Patrick McGoohan in 'The Prisoner' features in the background along with a drawing of Julian Cope and heads by his friend the author/illustrator Ged Adamson
This image is a still of part of the set.
"I chose Leicester originally because it was a broad based course. I could try lots of different things including film and this experiment was a bit of fun. I was having trouble getting up in the mornings and decided to make a film about it."
